Amanda Maher talks about responding to the 2 artworks below

Responding to the move before me, I felt vulnerable; self-portrait, nothing more vulnerable than the self. I took this photo the months before I became disabled in 2013. I have rebuilt, resculpted and relearned myself many times before this picture and since.

Haiku:
Fragility proved,
Like a broken soul, starborn.
Sculpting, self, again.

My response to Amandas photograph reminded me of a child’s metamorphosis into adulthood. The children on the shoulders of adults represented me asking for help and wanted stability from those I trusted. Some of us have no guidance or people we look up to but as children it reminds me that my imagination can also be the catalyst to my transformation by allowing me to become the adult I needed back then in the now through my expressions.
